Regarding to the common structural-acoustic methods, used for problem solving and development in vehicle acoustics, the following simulation tools are available at FKFS:

  • Dynamic finite element method (FEM) (Nastran, Abaqus)
  • Harmonic FEM and boundary element method (BEM) (Virtual.Lab)
  • Statistical energy analysis (SEA)

By now, the interaction between the air flow around the vehicle and the resulting deformation or vibration of the body parts (fluid-structure coupling or interaction) has become an important field of investigation. An other focus is the transfer of sound through structures into the interior of the vehicle. FKFS is developing methods to improve the simulation of these effects.
