Tire/road surface

The tire, which forms the only contact between the vehicle and the road, is a decisive element in terms of driving dynamics. Due to the complexity of the tire structure and the nonlinear material behavior, different tire models are used in the simulation, which can be subdivided into physical (e.g. FTyre) and mathematical models (e.g. HSRI, MFTyre).

 

The Universal Friction Meter (UFM) allows FKFS to measure real tires, and therefore to parameterize the tire models. Measurement of the road surface is performed using specially developed test vehicles by means of contactless laser metrology and a dGPS positioning system.

 

Through the independent development of slip and tire-force models, as well as road surface excitation models, FKFS benefits from a high degree of transparency and the means of being able to define and process extremely accurate road formats.
