Several array systems and acoustic mirrors are available for the localization of noise sources. Generally the "conformal mapping" method or a trace tracking method using a so called pv-probe is used in the vehicle interior. For the investigation of exterior noise, beamforming systems and acoustic mirrors (also array-based ones) are available. 

Array-based acoustic mirror

The in-house developed array-based acoustic mirror is characterized by high dynamics (SNR) and thus a high spatial resolution. With its 108 microphones which are built into a mounting plate of 32 cm x 25 cm, a measurement area of about 2 m x 1,5 m can be covered at 5 m distance without traversing the system.
