The interior comfort can be evaluated quantitatively by the comfortable temperature in the passenger area. The temperature is usually adjusted by blowing heat-controlled air into the passenger interior. To determine the individual volumetric flow figures at the vents accurately, a measuring system was developed at FKFS that can contribute toward optimizing the interior comfort while simultaneously lowering the energy consumption through optimization of the volumetric air flow and temperature.


At FKFS, the interior comfort is analyzed both experimentally, e.g. by measuring the heating behavior in the passenger compartment, and through numerical simulation. To this end, 3D flow simulations are used, which are coupled with a thermal solver.
