Mobility during Demographic Change

In line with current demographic trends, the number of elderly road users is continuously increasing. Since their age causes changes in their physical and cognitive capabilities, drivers of advanced age in general have individual support requirements.

The automotive industry is responding to this demographic development and is providing suitable assistance systems as well as auxiliary equipment for vehicles. This equipment and these systems support the drivers but usually do not address their individual requirements, which may change from day to day.

At the FKFS / IVK, a holistic development approach for on-demand support of automobile drivers is created. This approach takes into account the individual capabilities of drivers and provides support that is appropriate for a given situation. This research activity is based upon an ongoing research collaboration between the universities located in Ulm, Tübingen, Stuttgart and Hohenheim.
