Powertrain noises are caused by the drive system of a vehicle and its auxiliary power assemblies.
To test powertrain noises, there are numerous acoustic engine test benches available at FKFS. To test the transfer of engine excitations via structure-borne and air-borne paths in the interior, FKFS operates a vehicle acoustics test bench.
Drive noises can also be calculated with structural-acoustic simulation methods or by means of engine dynamics simulation. In this case, they can also be coupled with a flow calculation, such as one that would be suitable for calculating the noise of an exhaust system.
