Vehicle acoustics test bench

Vehicle acoustics test benches are mainly used for investigating powertrain noise. Usually, they are designed as drum test benches, the disadvantage of which, however, is that the noises being investigated are superimposed by the rolling noises of the tires on the drums.

Therefore, at FKFS, a test bench is operated where the torque on the drive axles is directly transferred to a dynamometer via a connecting shaft. By controlling the dynamometer and the accelerator position of the test vehicle, any operating point of the vehicle engine can be set. This way, certain noise phenomena can be more specifically initiated on the test bench than on the road.

The test bench is suitable both for internal as well as external noise measurements. It is suitable for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.
