With the rolling resistance measuring trailer at FKFS, the rolling resistance of passenger car wheels can be determined under realistic conditions and on real road surfaces. The trailer is registered for use on public highways, which means that measurements can also be conducted in normal traffic flow.
Both the camber and the toe can be set in a defined manner on the measuring wheel, whereby realistic rolling conditions of passenger car tires can be simulated. The wheel load is fully variably applied by a pneumatic cylinder. In addition to the camber, toe-in and wheel load, other influencing parameters, such as the tire inflation pressure and the road surface conditions, can be examined using the rolling resistance measuring trailer. All parameters which influence the measurements, such as the tire temperature, surface temperature, acceleration and setting angle are also measured to compensate for and document their influence.
