Flowmaster® is a one-dimensional simulation tool and is used for the fluid dynamics of the coolant circuit. The figure shows a section of the cooling system network. The cooling system is represented by numerous components: e.g. pipes, manifolds, reductions, branches, pumps, pressure losses, valves, heat sources and heat transfers.
To simulate instationary processes, such as speed and load changes or warm-up phases, it is also possible to integrate controllers in the network that contain the respective heat flow into the coolant, with respect to the driving speed and the load, by means of stored characteristic maps. Besides the simulation of the cooling circuit, Flowmaster® also allows simulating the oil circuit as well as the generation of an engine model.
