From 1st to 2nd October 2013 the FKFS-Conference 'Progress in Vehicle Aerodynamics and Thermal Management' takes place for the ninth time.
In today’s economic environment, consumer demand for fuel-efficient vehicles has never been higher. In addition also comfort including heating and cooling, low noise and safety are key elements. Thus, aerodynamic design as well as thermal management has a critical impact on fuel efficiency, through reducing drag of the vehicle’s shape and reducing losses associated with cooling flow through the engine compartment and climate control of the passenger compartment. Aerodynamics also considerably influences driving stability and thus safety as well as internal and external noise generation.
In the vehicle’s development process various problems are to be solved in shorter and shorter development cycles. This requires a high demand on simulation techniques, by computation or testing. The simulations must reproduce numerous real-world effects at af fordable costs. New or improved computational methods as well as testing techniques have to be developed or introduced for reproducing realistic road effects. Rotating wheels, oncoming flow conditions like turbulence or gusts and last but not least the road itself represented by a moving belt system in a wind tunnel are key factors for modern development procedures.
The FKFS-Conference is an ideal location to get latest information about new car developments, new or improved testing techniques and new or improved calculation procedures. It is an ideal forum to meet leading experts from industry, universities and other institutions, to exchange ideas and discuss new ones. Furthermore, demonstrations will show the state of the art in measurement technology applied live in FKFS Wind Tunnels and Laboratories.
