Engineering and Automotive Research Partnerships

The Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS) and Ohio State’s Center for Automotive Research (CAR) have formed a partnership agreement to collaborate on research initiatives. Additionally, The Ohio State University has formed a partnership agreement with the Universität Stuttgart to exchange teaching materials and scientific literature, collaborate on research and initiate a student and faculty exchange program.

Wolfram Ressel, Rektor of the Universität Stuttgart, along with a delegation from Stuttgart, visited Columbus in February to meet with Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee, William Baeslack, Dean of the College of Engineering and Professor Giorgio Rizzoni, Director of CAR. The Office of International Affairs helped facilitate the Stuttgart delegation’s visit and the signing of the Memorandum of Agreements.

As one of the top research centers in the field of engineering, the Universität Stuttgart has established international connections and partner institutions from which Ohio State, its students and its faculty can benefit. Fields of interest include aerospace, production systems, architecture, civil engineering, electrical, mechanical, systems and chemical engineering.

The agreement between CAR and Stuttgart FKFS was formalized to better serve the needs of an increasingly global automotive industry. Both CAR and Stuttgart FKFS have developed significant expertise in the development of technology for the future of the automobile. This collaboration has the potential to forge new relationships between global automotive industry leaders and the very best university researchers. The research partnership also will greatly enhance the education for undergraduate and graduate students, preparing them for careers in an increasingly global society.
