The legislation on compliance with exhaust emissions in real driving conditions ["Real Driving Emissions", RDE for short] has a significant impact on the entire engine development process. Because if this is only verified by PEMS test drives on prototypes at the end of the development process, changes to the drive and exhaust aftertreatment concept are often no longer possible or involve enormous effort. It is therefore advisable to carry out assessments of emissions in the early phases of the development process using virtual test drives. For this purpose, the FKFS developed the RapidCylinder® tool in cooperation with Robert Bosch GmbH.
