Communications

For decades now, communications and data exchange have been important areas of expertise in the development of networked vehicles. This starts with system networking using conventional network types, from the physical layer through to distributed network applications, as well as in all kinds of target platforms. FKFS is proficient in the entire development process: from embedded controllers, Windows-based systems through to HiL and near-series prototypes. Currently, know-how in data transmission via air interfaces is also becoming more sought-after. Mobile data communication from the vehicle is a prerequisite for autonomous vehicles. We have expertise in the secure collection, coding and preparation of vehicle data and are well-versed in all the interfaces and protocols necessary for secure and high-performance communication in and around the vehicle. In addition, FKFS also supports vehicle manufacturers in the important issue of selecting the right number of sensors from a cost perspective: without limiting function or sacrificing safety.

Communication of vehicles with other vehicles (V2V – vehicle-to-vehicle) and with infrastructure (V2I – vehicle-to-infrastructure) is an essential key technology for highly-automated and autonomous driving – and therefore for the development of the vehicles of the future as well. In addition, FKFS considers mastery of air interfaces (e.g. the 5G mobile communication standard) and maintenance of transmission quality to be important research fields for the future of mobility.
