Safety is an essential aspect of mobility. The expertise of FKFS is as multifaceted as the interpretations of the word "safety". On the one hand, we work to ensure the functional safety of the systems and their interactions, supported by safety analysis methodology using FMEA or FTA. Another aspect is the protection of drivers, passengers and workshop personnel, for example, when dealing with batteries and high-voltage electricity for electric drives. A further issue is data security, both in the sense of data protection, i.e. protection from unauthorized access, as well as in the sense of data integrity.

In the era of connectivity and car-to-X-communication, data security plays a vital role – and therefore in the projects at FKFS. On the one hand, development work is concerned with encrypting the communication between vehicles and back-end systems so that unauthorized access (man-in-the-middle attacks) can be excluded. On the other hand, the integrity of the data must be guaranteed. FKFS has established a very high standard of IT security in its projects. Based on appropriate protection profiles, this also works efficiently, reliably and flexibly for the exchange of data with customers.

Functional Safety
Functional Safety
The number of safety-relevant systems is increasing in all vehicles. These are systems which are actuated electrically and automatically, for example the steering system, the brakes and the drive. To prevent failure while driving, all risks to functional safety are identified and worked on during the development process. This also includes failures which may be caused by the software control system. By carrying out studies for its customers, FKFS determines and quantifies the risk of failures at a system and a component level; coming up with possible solution scenarios and also advising the customer about conformance to standards for electrical systems.

FMEA/FTA
FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) have become established as important methodologies for quality and risk management in automotive development. FKFS is very familiar with these standardized and ISO-certified methodologies – along with all the appropriate tools – enabling us to incorporate theoretical and practical experience into our work for our customers. This means FKFS can take on failure analysis work for our customers in all phases of the development process.
