Hydrogen Engine Test Bench
The FKFS has an engine test bench approved by the German Technical Inspection Agency for hydrogen operation. Two dynamometric brakes are available for them. The commercial vehicle dynamometric brake is located in the adjacent test chamber and is connected with the hydrogen engine test bench by means of a wall bracket. An industrial transmission can be interposed as an option. The automobile dynamometric brake is located inside the test chamber and is fitted with a capsule for hydrogen operation that is ventilated from the basement.
The electrical equipment features an explosion protection design. The test bench has two independent ventilation systems. Gas sensors monitor the room and switch off the hydrogen supply via an alarm system if they are tripped. The alarm system incorporates additional safety functions.

Hydrogen Supply
The hydrogen is supplied via four large cylinder groups each with 41 cylinders. It is initially operated using three groups. When a lower pressure limit is reached, the fourth group is used as the supply and a compressor buffers the remaining content of the first three groups into the fourth one.
