Pollutant minimization
Exhaust-gas systems of vehicles are becoming more and more complex concerning the reduction of avoidable exhaust-gas emissions. For spark-ignition engines, catalytic converters reduce the exhaust emissions almost completely in most driving conditions. The particulate filter together with the oxidizing catalytic converter has broken up the target conflict of particle and nitrogen-oxide emission of the diesel engine. Future emission standards require an additional component for further reduction of nitrogen oxide, for which NOx catalytic converters or SCR catalytic converters are a possible solution.
With its experience, extensive measuring technology equipment and state-of-the-art test benches, the FKFS offers diverse services for research into emission reduction procedures and the development of exhaust-gas systems.
Particulate filter systems
Particulate filter systems
Particulate filters are already state of the art for the reduction of diesel engine emissions. But a perfect function with a low impact on performance and fuel consumption is ensured only if the combination of oxidizing catalytic converter and particulate filter is adjusted with respect to load sensing and regeneration control for the respective engine and applied in the ECU.
The FKFS has many years of expertise and excellent equipment (2-line exhaust-gas measurement, FTIR, Fast-FID, soot sensor, particle counter, 2-axle positioning device, CVS system) to perform the corresponding application tasks (burn-off characteristics, drop-to-idle, load limit, NO2 regeneration). We are an experienced, reliable partner from substrate development to production-oriented application.

Nitrogen Oxide Reduction (SCR/LNT)
Nitrogen Oxide Reduction (SCR/LNT)
Filter systems in conjunction with low nitrogen oxide engine tuning will no longer be sufficient for future legal exhaust-gas regulations. In many cases, an active nitrogen oxide reduction based on NOx storage catalytic converters or SCR catalytic converters in the exhaust-gas system will be used. In particular, the selective catalytic reduction by means of urea or hydrocarbons is very effective , but it requires high tuning efforts – on the one hand for the demand-based dosing of the reducing agent, on the other hand for a flawless interaction with other components of the exhaust-gas system.
Our equipment for the development and dimensioning of combined exhaust-gas aftertreatment components:
- FTIR spectrometer for NOx, NH3, N2O analysis
- Diode laser for in situ measurement of ammonia before the SCR catalytic converter
- 2-axle positioning device for distribution measurement of reducing agents
