More than 80 participants from politics and research were virtually present today when Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Transport, Winfried Hermann, handed over the notice of funding in the amount of seven million euros to Prof. Hans-Christian Reuss.
The RABus project is a historical research project on the way to autonomous local public transport (ÖPNV) in Baden-Württemberg. The aim of the project is to research the development of electric bus shuttles towards autonomous level-4. In the real-life laboratories in Mannheim (focus: mixed inner-city traffic) and Friedrichshafen (focus: interurban operation), a largely economical public transport operation with electrified and automated vehicles, including attractive travel speeds, is to be tested by the end of 2023.
The consortium consists of the Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS), the Institute of Transportation at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Verkehrsbetrieb Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH, Verkehrsbetrieb Stadtverkehr Friedrichshafen GmbH with DB ZugBus Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee GmbH and ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
