Prof. Ulf Essers passed away

It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our Emeritus Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Ulf Essers, who died on 7 December at the age of 93.

Prof. Essers was Chairman of the FKFS from 1971 to 1998 and was also Professor at the University of Stuttgart and Head of the Institute of Internal Combustion Engines and Automotive Engineering (IVK). During this time, he made significant contributions to research and education in the fields of vehicle and engine technology and enhanced the reputation of both institutes and their staff and students.

As well as shaping the FKFS as it is today, Prof Essers' work has also advanced the history of the automobile. In particular, the Uni-Car project, a collaboration between the Universities of Stuttgart, Aachen, Darmstadt and Berlin, developed innovative concepts that found their way into the mass production of various car manufacturers.

With the death of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Ulf Essers, we have lost an outstanding researcher, educator and pioneer who had a lasting influence on our institute and the automotive industry. His friendly nature was much appreciated.

Our deepest condolences to his family!

In grateful memory and sorrow,

The Board and Staff of the FKFS
