Panel discussion

The second day of the Shanghai-Stuttgart Symposium "Automotive and Powertrain Technology" started today with technical presentations in several parallel sessions on the following topics: Hydrogen and E-fuel, Battery, Functional Safety of Intelligent Vehicle System, Test and Evaluation of Intelligent Vehicle System, New Vehicle Development and Vehicle Aeroacoustics.

This was followed in the afternoon by a keynote address by Lian Yubo, Executive Vice President, BYD Company Ltd. entitled "The Innovative Development of BYD Intelligent New Energy Vehicle under the New Situation". Lian talked about the difference between individual and group innovations. Of the latter one benefits not only a single company but an entire industry. He cited examples from software security, battery technology and artificial intelligence.

The fifth and final keynote of the Shanghai-Stuttgart Symposium was given by Prof. Ulrich Hackenberg, Hackenberg Automotive Consultancy on the topic of "Extending the Successful Modular Toolkit Strategy to Software Development". He highlighted the question of whether the successful hardware platforms once initiated by Prof. Hackenberg in the VW Group can also be transported to the world of software engineering. As a solution idea for the high innovation pressure in vehicle electronics and as a supplement to existing platforms, he presented the "Operative System (OS)", which can be used modularly for different vehicle platforms of an OEM.

The two-day symposium concluded with a panel discussion on "Future Development and Application of Toolkits for the Automotive Industry ". The high-profile participants, some on-site and some digitally connected

  • Zhang Lijun, Dean of School of Automotive Studies, Tongji University
  • Ulrich Hackenberg, Hackenberg Automotive Consultancy
  • Wei Zhou, SAIC Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd.
  • Andreas Wagner, University of Stuttgart, IFS, Head of Automotive Engineering
  • Zhang Junyi, Partner, Auto Lead, Oliver Wyman, former Founding & Managing Partner of NIO Captial

agreed that platforms help to reduce development costs and that the corresponding concepts should also be incorporated into engineering education in particular.

In his final greeting, Prof. Hans-Christian Reuss, IFS, University of Stuttgart thanked everyone who made the 6th Shanghai-Stuttgart Symposium "Automotive and Powertrain Technology" such a great event. With over 1400 participants, 300 on-site and 1110 online, and the many scientific highlights the symposium was a huge success.
